The project was a collaboration project with Chelsea Physic Garden as a Master's degree student of the University of the Arts London. CPG classified plants according to their usefulness to humans or made natural medicines or flower crowns. The project's purpose is to think about the importance of nature, away from the human-centred perspective. I positioned CPG as a role in driving changes in human behaviour from the nature archive that is the present position.

Scientific Approach

Back to science class for a second, let's recall the memory that we have learned plant's condition changes depending on environments. Using a microscope, I observed plant's cells changes according to micro-environments such as temperature, humidity. Based on this observed data, my team created patterns.

Digital Exhibition

Microverse

To maximise the project's message, I reversed the size of humans and plants. First, I enlarged the plant's cell size and created a small door people needed to crawl to enter the exhibition hall. It gave an impression of reducing humans size when they pass through the door.

All human actions can affect plant cells inside the exhibition hall. Using a touch-designer and webcam, when people get close to plant cells, it changes from healthy cells to destroyed cells, and it goes back to healthy plant cells again when humans maintain a proper distance from plants. It delivered the message of the importance of a balanced relationship between humans and nature.

Macro & Micro

CPG has been recorded data of garden's environmental change since the 1900s, there were changes in the Microclimate, for example, an increase of ground temperature.  I defined the Micro perspective with Macro as connected relationships like a Möbius strip. Microclimate changes will affect the  Macro-climate, and eventually, it will affect the Micro-climate again. Among elements that have huge impacts on climate, I focused on human activities. I planned to visualise the impact of humans on the environment and achieve a balanced relationship between humans and nature.
